Drawer System Showdown: Carpet vs. Raptor Liner vs. Marine Paint Which Is Best for Your Vehicle Storage System? When it comes to protecting your custom drawer system and keeping it looking sharp for years to come, the finish you choose is more than just cosmetic… it plays a big role in durability, function, and maintenance. Today, we’re breaking down the three most common drawer liner options: carpet, Raptor Liner, and marine paint. Whether you’re building your own setup or customizing one professionally, this showdown will help you decide what’s best for your vehicle and your lifestyle. 🧶 Carpet: The Classic Choice Pros: Affordable: Easy on the budget and widely available. Quieter: Reduces rattling and noise from gear shifting in transit. Grippy Surface: Helps keep gear from sliding around. Cons: Hard to Clean: Dirt, mud, and sand can get trapped in the fibers. Absorbs Moisture: Prone to mold, mildew, and rot over time — especially in humid or wet climates. Wears Out: Carpet can fray or peel with repeated use, especially around edges and drawer fronts. Best For: Occasional weekend warriors or dry-climate setups where quiet transport and budget are top priorities. 🛡️ Raptor Liner: The Off-Road Champion Pros: Durability: Originally designed as a truck bed liner, it’s resistant to scratches, UV rays, chemicals, and impacts. Waterproof and Seals Wood: Unlike carpet, Raptor Liner seals the surface, preventing rot and moisture damage. Easy to Clean: Hose it off or wipe it down — it’s built to take abuse. OEM Looks: The Raptor Liner finish gives a premium and OEM look and finish. Cons: Rougher Surface: Not as grippy as carpet; may require additional mats for delicate items. Cost and Prep Time: Slightly more expensive and labor-intensive to apply than carpet or paint. Best For: Hardcore overlanders, outdoor pros, or anyone who needs a rugged, weather-resistant solution that looks just as tough as it performs. 🎨 Marine Paint: The Water-Resistant Middle Ground Pros: Waterproof: Designed for boat decks, marine paint holds up well against moisture and humidity. Smooth, Clean Finish: Easier to wipe down than carpet, and generally provides a clean, factory-style look. UV Resistant: Many marine paints are formulated to resist sun damage and fading. Cons: Less Impact Protection: Doesn’t have the same level of scratch or abrasion resistance as Raptor Liner. Can Chip Over Time: Especially if the surface isn’t prepped properly or the drawers take a beating. Best For: DIYers or vanlifers who want a clean, weatherproof finish without the heavy texture or industrial look of Raptor Liner. Final Verdict: Which Should You Choose? Feature Carpet Raptor Liner Marine Paint Water Resistance ❌ ✅✅ ✅ Durability ⚠️ ✅✅✅ ✅ Maintenance/Cleaning ❌ ✅✅ ✅✅ Aesthetic Options ✅✅ ✅✅ ✅✅ Installation/Cost ✅✅✅ ✅ ✅✅ Go with Carpet if you’re on a tight budget and need something simple, but be prepared to replace it over time. Choose Raptor Liner if you want the most rugged, long-lasting, and maintenance-free option — especially for off-road or coastal use. Opt for Marine Paint if you want a clean, waterproof finish without the texture or added cost of Raptor Liner. 💬 Final Thoughts There’s no one-size-fits-all answer….your choice depends on how (and where) you use your vehicle. At DrawerSystems.com, we’ve tested all three, and for most of our builds, Raptor Liner comes out on top due to its unmatched durability, protection and factory looks. Still unsure? Pre-built vs Custom Drawer System
The Pros and Cons of Pre-Built vs Custom Drawer Systems Upgrading your vehicle with a drawer system, whether for overlanding, work, or weekend adventures, starts with one big question:do you go with a pre-built unit or invest in a fully custom build? Both routes have their strengths; the best choice depends onyour budget, vehicle, and how you use your gear. Below, we break down the pros and cons of each so you can decide with confidence. Pre-Built Drawer Systems: The Plug-and-Play Option Pros Faster Lead Times – Usually in stock or ready to ship, so you’re road-ready sooner. Lower Cost – Mass production reduces price per unit, making this the most budget-friendly choice. Simpler Installation – Often bolt-in with no drilling; perfect for DIY first-timers. Proven Designs – Factory-tested and refined, so reliability is seldom an issue. Cons Limited Fitment – “Universal” sizing can leave wasted space or awkward gaps in your cargo area. Fewer Options – Materials, layouts, and finishes are locked in; personalization is minimal. Generic Functionality – Works well, but not always for you—special gear may not fit perfectly. Custom Drawer Systems: Built Just for You Pros Tailored to Your Lifestyle – Designed around your gear, your workflow, your adventures. Maximized Space – Every inch of your cargo area is used efficiently—no dead space. Integration Options – Add water tanks, power systems, slide-out kitchens, fridge mounts, and more. Unique Aesthetics – Choose custom finishes like Raptor Liner, powder coat, or branded etching. Cons Longer Build Times – Design, fabrication, and finishing take time; plan for a longer lead. Higher Price Tag – Craftsmanship and premium materials come with premium pricing. Usually requires the vehicle to be dropped off in our shop for design and build out. Requires Planning – You’ll need to map out exactly how you use (and will grow into) the system. Which One Is Right for You? Choose Pre-Built if …• You’re on a tight budget.• You need a quick, hassle-free install.• Your storage needs are fairly generic. Choose Custom if …• You want a long-term, personalized solution.• You have specialty gear or electrical/water needs.• You care about aesthetics as much as function. Final Thoughts Whether you pick a pre-built system or a bespoke build, smart storage will transform how you work and adventure.Need guidance? What is a Vehicle Drawer System?
What Is a Vehicle Drawer System and Why You Need One? Whether you’re a weekend warrior, full-time vanlifer, overlanding enthusiast, or just tired of digging through a mess in the back of your SUV, a vehicle drawer system might be the upgrade you never knew you needed. What Is a Vehicle Drawer System? A vehicle drawer system is a custom or modular storage solution that fits into the back of your vehicle….typically an SUV, truck, van, or 4×4. Think of it like a heavy-duty toolbox, but purpose-built for your gear and your vehicle. These systems usually feature sliding drawers, lockable compartments, and optional add-ons like integrated power, water tanks, slide-out kitchens, or 12v refrigerators. They’re built to be rugged, organized, and accessible….designed to keep your gear secure and easy to reach and available at a moments notice. Why You Need One: The Benefits ✅ Organization: No more gear piles. Drawer systems give every tool, camp stove, recovery strap, or camera a dedicated space. You’ll save time and frustration by knowing exactly where everything is…especially in emergencies or while setting up camp. ✅ Maximized Space: Drawer systems are designed to use every inch of available space. Whether you have a compact crossover or a full-size van, you’ll get optimized storage without sacrificing sleeping or loading space. ✅ Security & Protection: Most systems are lockable and virtually hidden in the back of your vehicle. Your valuables stay safe from theft, dust, and the elements. We use Raptor Liner…an epoxy-based coating to protect the wood from mold, water, and stains. ✅ Rapid Deployment: Tired of packing and repacking? With a drawer system, your essentials stay in your rig but out of sight. Be ready for a last-minute weekend trip or to hit the trails right after work. ✅ Customization for Your Lifestyle: Whether you’re building out a trail-ready Ineos Grenadier or outfitting an SUV for family road trips, our drawer systems can be tailored to your needs. Add a slide-out stove, 12v fridge, or power stations like Jackery and EcoFlow to turn your rig into an off-grid basecamp. Who Are Drawer Systems For? Overlanders needing efficient gear access deep in the backcountry Tradespeople organizing tools and parts for daily work Families road-tripping and camping with kids Photographers & creators hauling sensitive or expensive gear Sports fans setting up every Sunday for a day of tailgating Soccer Moms hauling your kids and equipment around to sporting events Anyone who wants to haul gear and create a more capable vehicle setup Final Thoughts A vehicle drawer system isn’t just a luxury, it’s a functional upgrade that brings order, efficiency, and comfort to your travels. Electrical & Water
When designing your drawer system it is important to think about current or future power and water needs. We design and build our drawers with room in the back (behind the second row seats) to give you plenty of space to add batteries, fuses and other accessories in the future or when we are building out the system. Our all-in-one solution as seen in the first couple pics below is as close to a plug and play system that you can get. We can pre-wire and deliver to you or bring your vehicle to us and we can install a killer power system to run anything you can think of. Land Rover LR3/LR4
The Land Rover LR3 and LR4, also known as the Discovery 3 and Discovery 4 overseas, have become formidable base platforms for overland builds around the globe. With reasonable used car pricing, classic styling, ample storage and the factory air suspension, the Disco makes a great overland vehicle platform. We of course are biased as we currently own a 2008 LR3 SE and a 2013 LR4 HSE Lux. 🙂 The storage and rear compartments are the same dimensions for the LR3/LR4 and since we have 2 sitting our driveway, we can get very creative on drawer system builds 😉 Contact us for more info Camp kitchen for Land Rover LR4 LR3 LR4 Drawer System LR3 LR4 Drawer System Drawer dividers LR3 LR4 Drawer System IMG_9165 LR3 LR4 Drawer System IMG_5898 IMG_5900 LR4 Electrical LR3 LR4 Camp Kitchen IMG_9034 12A918D6-3AF9-4C16-A081-094E6A8B53E4_1_105_c Land Rover 210 watt solar system Land Rover LR3 Land Rover LR3/LR4 Land Rover LR3/LR4 Details 25C1BF0B-CDC2-4D6C-B5CB-D27F2FE7976D Land Rover LR3/LR4 Load More End of Content.
